Travelers should stay at the Yau Tsim Mong District in the Kowloon Peninsula
Hong Kong already has more than 260 hotels.
Many new hotels use the low rates, good food, fancy facilities etc. to attract the travelers.
However, as a private tour guide and YOUR Chief Experience Officer (CEO!) in Hong Kong, I emphasize hotels’ location more than others.
I strongly recommend YOU should stay at the Yau Ma Tei, Tsim Sha Tsui and Mong Kok District (Yau Tsim Mong District), which is the city center of the Kowloon Peninsula.

Yau Tsim Mong is the best location for travelers
Location matters when you choose YOUR place to live and YOUR place to stay when YOU travel.
Convenience is the most important value for travelers as YOU have limited time in Hong Kong.
The hotels in Yau Tsim Mong District can offer travelers the convenience!
Yau Tsim Mong District is the center point of Hong Kong. YOU can enjoy the convenience and easiness if you stay at the hotels there!
YOU can find many sightseeing, dining and shopping options very easily in this traditional tourist area, e.g. Star Ferry, Ladies Market, Temple Street Night Market and Harbour City Shopping Mall.
Left to right: Peninsula Hotel, Nathan Road, Sheraton Hotel. Hotels in Tsim Sha Tsui can be very close to the easy and convenient main road, where you can find lots of dining and shopping options, bus and MTR.
Yau Ma Tei’s hotels are close to the Temple Street Night Market.
Fa Yuen Street Market is close to the hotels in Mong Kok.
Ladies Market is close to the hotels in Mong Kok.
YOU can take MTR or even walk to the above-mentioned places easily on Nathan Road, Canton Road or Chatham Road.
If YOU have a private tour, YOUR private guide can bring YOU to the major sightseeing pints or hidden gems very easily by the private car, as Yau Tsim Mong is the center of the whole city with a good connection.
Why Hong Kong Island is not a good location?
Hong Kong Island is not good for travelers because it is more expensive.
YOU may think that the most famous highlights of Hong Kong, Victoria Peak, Aberdeen and Stanley, are all on the Hong Kong Island.
So the hotels there should be good for the travelers.
Hotels on Hong Kong Island are more expensive as they mainly serve the businessmen.
Yes, but they are more expensive than the counterparts in Kowloon Peninsula as Hong Kong Island is the major financial and commercial area.
Especially in Central and Wan Chai, the hotels are mainly for the businessmen.
Like the more expensive business class flight tickets, the room rates on Hong Kong Island are higher than Kowloon in general.
At this moment, there are a lot of construction sites in the northern part of the island.
They affect the view and cause traffic jam problem.
Why the New Territories is not a good location?
Many new hotels locate at the New Territories, which is not a good location for travelers.
First, the New Territories is too far away from the city center.
The name is misleading. Crowne Plaza Hong Kong Kowloon East is actually at the Tseung Kwan O New Town, in the New Territories, not Kowloon!
It takes more money and time to go back to the major sightseeing points.
40% of population live in the New Territories only get 24% of job opportunity, so they mostly go back to the city center to work.
During rush hours, the public transportation, especially the MTR, can be very crowded.
As there are about 5 million people take the MTR daily, it can be exhausting commuting from the New Territories to the city center.
Due to the extra mileage, YOU need to pay extra for the private transfer or private tour starting at the hotel in the New Territories.
Second, the room rate may not be very low as the hotels are new and have advanced facilities.
Courtyard by Marriott Hong Kong Sha Tin is far away from the major sightseeing points, city center and airport. YOU can find the more convenient hotels in Kowloon by paying the same rate.
Third, the new hotels mostly locate at the new towns, which are mainly the new residential areas.
The number of shopping, dining and sightseeing options are limited.
