Inspection of the Hong Kong-Macau-Zhuhai Bridge
The World longest tunnel-cum-bridge system, Hong Kong-Macau-Zhuhai Bridge opens in October 2018.
Frank the tour guide is eager to develop the Lantau Island Macau private car tour, which covers Hong Kong’s Big Buddha and Macau Catholic relics, so Frank inspects and experiences the scenery, immigration process, shuttle bus service and facilities of the bridge.
It is mostly a restricted area. Only car with permit and franchised shuttle bus can use the bridge.
It is next to the airport. So it takes time from the city center to go there.
When you take the shuttle bus, you may see the beautiful sunset on the correct side of the bus and at the right timing.
Sunset is nice. But most other scenery of the bridge is sea water!
However, other “scenery” is mainly sea water!
When the bus is in the long tunnel, passengers see nothing!
The insufficient and clumsy shuttle bus service often cannot digest the big crowds.
Therefore, after the inspection, Frank decides to shelve the planning of the new tour by the bridge.
It is still better to take the high speed ferry to go back and forth Hong Kong and Macau.

Actually many people, especially the Mainland Chinese tourists, regard the bridge as a new and grand sightseeing point.
A lot of group tourists experience the bridge and arrive at Hong Kong’s Lantau Island.

- Skip Tai O Fishing Village
- Start Lantau tour only in the morning
Why we need to skip Tai O?
It is because most tourists for the bridge are from Mainland China.
They like shopping at Tai O for dried sea food.
That means overcrowding problem spreads to the small and remote fishing village.
So it is good to dodge Tai O.
Also our tour goes to Tai O for enjoying the nice sunset during the local ferry ride.
As winter is approaching, the cold and windy weather just make the open top ferry ride not comfortable.
It is better to return to Tai O in the summertime!

Why we start the tour only in the morning?
As if we start early, we can find driver Simon for help to take his taxi to go up to the hilltop to see the Big Buddha first.
Taking Lantau blue taxi is a good way to dodge the crowds at the Tung Chung cable Car Station. It is also a lot cheaper than the private car with Lantau permit!
Then when we take cable car to go downhill easily, the big crowds are still going uphill by the cable car or waiting for the cable car at Tung Chung.

We just dodge the big crowds!

If we start late in the afternoon, we just mix with the crowds at the top of the mountain.
